The Importance of Regular Maintenance
The Cathedral Quarter High Street Heritage Action Zone is encouraging owners of all building types, not just historic ones, to be aware of the importance of regular care and maintenance. It stops small issues causing great damage or escalating into expensive and challenging crises. Small steps can keep a building dry and can make a big difference. Clearing gutters and checking your roof’s condition once a year are simple ways to help prevent rainwater damage.
As part of a regular maintenance plan, do check rainwater goods, look out for cracks, breakages, and blockages from debris including earth, twigs, leaves and bird’s nests. Any amount of water ingress can cause problems both inside (from patches of damp or failing lath and plasters) and outside where patches of algae (i.e. green staining) can be seen from leaking gutters. Why not download our maintenance checklist and undertake a quick survey to see if your property requires any attention.
